SEND & Inclusion

At Castleway, we know that all children are unique. In fact, celebrating uniqueness is something we are proud to do at Castleway.

We strive to meet all children at their point of need and provide teaching and learning activities that enable each child to achieve their full potential, whatever their ability or specific needs.

Additional support may be required where children have learning needs, physical/health needs or emotional needs or a combination of all these areas. At Castleway, we aim to support children and their families to help them make progress during their time here.

Our team endeavour to remove the barriers to learning and participation and encourage confidence, resourcefulness and independence in all our learners.

Providing quality first teaching means that a range of teaching and learning styles are used and that appropriate learning objectives are set for all children with a curriculum matched to their needs. Our teaching assistants support all our classes and pupils are also offered intervention programmes where a specific need is identified. As detailed in ‘Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0-25 years’ (January 2015) children are provided with support based on 4 areas of need:

  • Cognition and learning
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Sensory and/or physical needs

Mrs. J. McCarthy is our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo). If you need any support or advice then you can contact her via the school office on 0151 677 2953 or via email senco@castleway.wirral.sch.uk.

We want all children to feel that they are a fully inclusive and valued member of our school community. We welcome the full engagement of parents and carers and where necessary seek support and advice from specialists outside the school.

Castleway is committed to working in partnership with parents/carers, external agencies and Wirral Local Authority to ensure the best outcomes for our children identified with special educational needs.
